Lightweight offline-capable POS for local merchants — dual-screen checkout and thermal printing
1.The Challenge
Small local merchants were burdened by high annual subscription fees for SaaS POS systems that were overly complex and slow on legacy hardware (Windows 7). They needed a cost-effective, offline-capable solution tailored to their specific workflow.
2.The Solution
Developed a lightweight desktop application using Electron and Node.js with SQLite for local data persistence. Engineered a dual-screen architecture (employee order view + customer cart view) and integrated raw thermal printing protocols for instant receipt generation.
3.The Outcome
Eliminated recurring software costs for the client. The simplified touch-friendly UI reduced staff training time, while the local database ensured smooth performance on older hardware.
